Story

Ben, Dave, Jim, and our selfless driver Josh are taking on the UK 3-peaks challenge on the 25th/26th May. Starting in Fort William at 5pm on Saturday 25th, we're pushing for a 24-hour completion but will keep going as long as it takes. Fingers crossed for good weather, traffic and unscathed muscles of our 40+ bodies, lugging ourselves up and down Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. We'd be very grateful for any donations in memory of our good friend Keith, who we miss dearly.

Updates

Peak 3 - Snowdon

26th May 2024
Well, that was eventful… We reached the start of the Snowdon path just before midday, giving us 4hrs 25mins to complete the challenge within 24hrs. Josh was able to join us on this one which was great. Long story short, it was a slog. I (Jim) hit a number of walls on the way up and my legs felt like jelly. We reached the cloudy summit quite a bit later than we’d have liked, and decided to split into two groups, descending on two completely different paths, to give one the best chance to get down in the time limit. As it turned out, both groups managed it with just minutes to spare, Ben & Josh in 23hrs 52mins and Dave and Jim in 23hrs 44mins. We did it!! According to my watch, over the past 24 hours we have each taken around 68,000 steps and walked up the equivalent of 841 flights of stairs 🥵 We’re now heading back to our various homes around the country. We’re exhausted, exhilarated and elated in equal measure and so pleased we managed to complete the challenge. Thanks once more for all of your generous donations and messages of support, they really kept us going in the hard moments. Keith, that one was for you fella x

Peak 2 - Scafell Pike

26th May 2024
Sterling effort from Josh in our speed-limited minibus to get us to the foot of Scafell by just after 3am. An epic drive with zero stops, what a hero. A very tough climb and descent after no sleep, difficult terrain and pretty sore legs! But once again we lucked out massively with the weather (no rain, but a bit grey so not as many nice views on this one) and smashed this one out in less than our 4 hour target. We also had the BEST welcome back down the mountain from Clare, who got up at an ungodly hour to greet us with our favourite music, lovely coffee (credit to Gatehouse here too!) and amazing care packages for us all. Truly amazing and it’s given us a huge boost. Unsurprisingly we’re feeling it now, knees and feet are in a bit of trouble, but with one to go we think we’ve got this. Thanks again to everyone who’s supported us and donated to such an important cause, we really appreciate it.

Peak 1 - Ben Nevis

25th May 2024
After a lengthy wait for our gourmet Morrisons Cafe brunch, we enjoyed a very picturesque drive up to Fort William. Started the walk (and the overall challenge) at 4.12pm, and we couldn’t have had better weather. Stunning scenery from start to finish and we finished in just over our 5hr target. Josh has filled the van with fuel and snacks and we’re now hot-footing our way to Scafell, where we’re in for a challenging climb in the rain…. Time to try and stretch out, soothe some aching legs and grab some rest now 😴

Park run

25th May 2024
Because walking three peaks is clearly not enough of a challenge, Ben and Dave have completed the Springburn park run this morning (both with fantastic times, Dave with a 19.17 PB 😳). We’re now back on the road, heading to Fort William via a hearty brunch stop off. Landed on a 4pm start time, getting exciting now!

Road trip part 1

24th May 2024
Good start - got a free upgrade on the minibus (we now have room for 15 more if anyone wants to join us?!) 6.51pm - just hit Scotland, about an hour to go to our digs in Stepps (obviously chosen by Ben). This evening will be spent playing darts and looking at weather patterns / road closures to determine our start time tomorrow.
